What brought you to the field of Acupuncture, and what do you love about it?
After a year in an unfulfilling job, I started thinking about an alternative career path. I knew I wanted to work in the health care field; my dad is a doctor and it was clear that he was happy in the job he had. What brought me to start studying acupuncture was that it was very effective in reducing stress and anxiety when I was in middle school. Every time I received a treatment it brought on a feeling of relaxation and clarity.
In college, I began shadowing multiple practitioners and working with an acupuncturist before I started looking into schools. I remember when I was shadowing, practitioners really listened to each patient and after the treatments patients left with a smile on their face. I started understanding acupuncture and how it works while attending the New England School of Acupuncture.
What I love about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is that it views the body as one system and focuses on the root of the cause. Acupuncture can reduce stress levels, act as natural pain management, improve one’s sleep, build a stronger immune system and decrease one’s need for medications. I am very happy and thankful to be working at Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture and help care for the community.
What are your specialty areas within the field?
Some of my specialty areas include orthopedic style acupuncture, pediatrics, anxiety/depression, digestive disorders, and pain management.
What are your interests outside of Acupuncture?
In my free time I enjoy traveling, singing, playing music, hiking, camping and being by the water. I love spending time with my family and friends.
I have lived in Maine for most of my life and the places and people here hold a special place in my heart.
I am very excited for this wonderful opportunity to be working and treating people at Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture.
And since her arrival, the reviews have been flying in for Leah’s amazing work!
