20 years. Thousands of families. Maine’s most trusted fertility specialists.
Beth Herzig and Jason Stein co-founded Rocky Coast in 2002, built specifically around fertility support and integrative medicine. For over two decades they’ve worked alongside reproductive endocrinologists and OB/GYNs across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. They’ve sat with hundreds of patients who were told their labs were normal — and they know how to look further.

Normal FSH. Normal AMH. Normal ultrasound.
"We can't find anything wrong" might be the most isolating sentence in medicine.
But unexplained doesn't mean unanswerable. It means the right questions haven't been asked yet.
That's exactly where we start.

Endorses Rocky Coast Fertility Acupuncture Treatment
“Undergoing treatment at Rocky Coast is an essential part of my patients' fertility treatment plan — giving them the absolute best chances for pregnancy success."
— Dr. Aaron K. Styer, MD, Reproductive Endocrinologist, CCRM Boston
“It has been a distinct pleasure and privilege to collaborate in fertility care with Beth, Jason and their phenomenal team at Rocky Coast Integrated Medicine over the past several years. They are so incredibly knowledgeable about all medical aspects of IVF and are so thoughtful when providing Chinese medicine treatments that are always so synergistic with Western fertility treatment. When referring our patients to Rocky Coast, we have always received the most enthusiastic and positive feedback that the team always provides the highest quality of care with impressive support, compassion, responsiveness and professionalism throughout the entire process. I am always confident that our fertility patients who are doing treatments with Rocky Coast will have the absolute best chances for pregnancy success. All of the patients that I share with them are so well supported emotionally and holistically, and are always so well-prepared for their fertility journey. In my opinion, undergoing treatment at Rocky Coast is an essential part of my patients’ fertility treatment plan, and I am so thankful that our patients have them as a resource to optimize their success!”

You've been trying for more than a year.
You've done the tracking. The apps. The ovulation strips. The timed cycles. You've had the bloodwork, the ultrasounds, the consultations. You've heard "everything looks normal" enough times that you've started to wonder if you're the problem.
You're not.
You might have been told to relax. To reduce stress. To just keep trying.
You deserve better than that.
Unexplained infertility affects 1 in 4 couples struggling to conceive. The word "unexplained" doesn't mean there's no explanation. It means conventional medicine ran out of questions before it found one.
We haven't run out of questions.
What “unexplained” actually means
Standard fertility testing measures a narrow set of variables. Hormone levels at one point in time. Uterine structure. Sperm count. Ovarian reserve.
What it doesn’t measure:
Circulation — blood flow to the uterus and ovaries directly affects implantation and egg quality.
Nervous system regulation — chronic stress elevates cortisol, disrupts hormonal signaling, and creates a physiological environment that works against conception. This doesn’t show up on a panel.
Subclinical inflammation — low-grade inflammation can interfere with implantation without triggering any red flags in standard labs.
Cycle patterns over time — Chinese medicine reads the full arc of your cycle, not just a single snapshot. Changes in flow, timing, temperature, and symptoms tell a story that bloodwork alone doesn’t.
“Unexplained” is where conventional medicine stops. It’s where we start.
Our approach to unexplained infertility
At Rocky Coast, your care is built around you specifically — not a protocol for your diagnosis. After your free intro call, we develop a personalized program drawing from our full toolkit:
Acupuncture — targeted to your cycle phase, improving blood flow, egg quality, and uterine lining
Chinese Herbal Medicine — customized formulas for your specific hormonal pattern
Functional Medicine — advanced lab testing beyond the standard fertility panel
Nutritional Guidance — specific dietary and supplement recommendations based on your labs
Cycle Tracking & Pattern Analysis — reading your full cycle over time to find what a single blood draw misses
Real patients. Real outcomes.
“5 years. That is how long I had been struggling with infertility. From my very first appointment with Jason, something was different — he engaged me with compassion, curiosity and hope. I credit him with making pregnancy possible for me.”
“After 6 months of trying with no success, I went to Beth for two treatments and conceived that month.”
“Beth’s knowledge and expertise helped get us to where we are today — 15 weeks pregnant and counting. She was also there for emotional support through the IVF process and I’m forever grateful.”
Frequently asked questionsI’ve already tried acupuncture. Why would this be different
Most general acupuncture is not designed for fertility. Our program is built specifically around your cycle, your labs, and your reproductive goals — with practitioners who work alongside REIs every day.
My RE hasn’t mentioned acupuncture. Should I tell them?
Yes — and most are supportive. We’re happy to communicate directly with your care team if that’s helpful. Integrative and conventional care work well together, and many REs in Maine and New England are familiar with our practice.
How long does the program take?
Most people start to see changes in 3–4 months. We’ll talk through realistic timelines during your free call, based on where you are now.
Is this covered by insurance?
Acupuncture is sometimes covered for pain or other conditions — it varies by plan. We can provide superbills for reimbursement. HSA and FSA funds are typically accepted.?
