8 Cooling Foods & Drinks

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, maintaining balance in the body is key. Excessive heat can disrupt that balance in the body, and while there are some built-in responses to cool the body down (sweating for example), the homeostasis is often thrown off by our efforts to cool down.

Next time you are experiencing heat from summer weather, try one of the following 8 cooling foods and drinks. These are enjoyed preferably at room temperature as they are naturally cooling in the body without altering their temperature.

Cooling Foods
1. Watermelon
2. Cucumber
3. Mung beans
4. Lettuce
5. Water chestnuts

Cooling drinks
6. Chrysanthemum tea
7. Dandelion root tea
8. Elderflower tea

*Avoiding warm or damp foods such as hot, spicy, greasy, or overly oily foods, as well as over-consumption of alcohol, coffee, or sugars can help you stay cool during the summer months.
